The DejaVu app’s privacy policy

Your memories never leave your Mac: Yando Pte. Ltd. has no access to them, ever. This page describes, plainly, every other piece of data involved in using and buying DejaVu.

Your memory

Pictures of your screen, the text read in them, window and app names, web page addresses and everything derived from them (search index, collections, answers) are created, encrypted and stored on your Mac only. Nothing from your memory is ever sent to us or to anyone, and we cannot access it. You can export or delete it at any time in the app.

What the app never does

No usage analytics, no telemetry, no advertising or tracking tools in the app, and no sale or sharing of data for advertising.

Activating Pro, and subscriptions

Buying on our website: Pro is activated once on each Mac, with a single connection to our server (api.godejavu.app, hosted by Cloudflare). It sends your licence key and a code specific to this Mac (a salted hash that can’t be traced back to its hardware identifier); after that, a lifetime licence is verified on your Mac, offline, for good. A subscription additionally checks its key, and only the key, at most once a week; if you are offline, it keeps working for a grace period. For each activated Mac, our server keeps that code, the activation date and, for subscriptions, the date of the last check; they are deleted when you release that Mac. As with any connection, the server also sees your IP address and the time. Pro can be active on 2 Macs, Family on 5, and you can release a Mac yourself in DejaVu › Settings › Licence. Legal basis: performance of the contract.

Updates

The direct edition checks for updates once a day by requesting godejavu.app/appcast.xml; the request carries the app’s name and version and, like any connection, your IP address. To count how many Macs use DejaVu without keeping IP addresses, our server stores a keyed fingerprint of your IP address (computed with a secret that never reaches the database), deleted after two days at most; only anonymous totals (per hour, version and country) are kept, for 400 days. Our anti-abuse limits use the same kind of short-lived fingerprint. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in delivering updates, preventing abuse and sizing our service.

Mac App Store edition

The Mac App Store edition has no system permission to use the network. Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple; Apple sends us transaction notifications that do not identify you.

Browser extensions

If you install the DejaVu extension, it sends the address and visible text of the pages you read to DejaVu on your Mac only — never in private windows, never from sensitive sites, never form fields or passwords. Nothing goes to us.

Buying on our website

Payments are processed by Stripe, which receives your name, email address, country and payment method; we never see your card number. We keep your email address, your plan and your licence to deliver your purchase, send you your key by email from [email protected] and provide support. The “Lost your key?” form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block abuse. Legal basis: performance of the contract, and our legitimate interest in preventing abuse.

Technical logs

Like any web service, Cloudflare keeps technical logs (IP address, time, request) for a few days for security and reliability. Our licence database stores no IP address. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in security.

If a subscription ends

We remind you 7 days before. Then your whole memory stays readable for 30 days, so you can export it; after that the app keeps the last 3 days, like Free. This happens on your Mac: we never touch your memory.

Transfers and retention

Our providers (Cloudflare, Stripe) and Yando Pte. Ltd. (Singapore) may process purchase data outside the European Union, under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard. We keep licence data as long as the licence exists, and payment records as long as accounting law requires.

Your rights

Your memory is in your hands: export or delete it in the app. For your purchase and licence data, you can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or port it, or object to its use, by writing to [email protected]. You can also complain to the data protection authority of your country.
